The ladies wanting a gender-specific mobile phone can have a lot to look forward to this coming New Year. Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has just officially announced the release of a couple of fashionable mobile phones, one of which is the Samsung S707 Diva handset that is sure to delight the farer sex. It carries nifty features that are designed precisely for the lady fashionistas. As an entry-level touchscreen handset, it’s affordable on the side which Samsung hopes to open a wider market share to start the New Year right.
Excellent Basic Features
As a budget touchscreen handset, the S7070 Diva does the hob without much of the frills we’ve come to expect from full-featured all around mobile phones. This is just your basic tri band GSM/GPRS/EDGE in touchscreen monoblock body that measures 101.0 x 54.8 x 13.4 mm and weighs 94 grams. It stands out with a unique diamond-back textured design that makes it feel nice in your palm apart from being compact and light.
There’s no 3G and no WiFi so don’t expect to surf the net at high speeds; but you get decent GPRS/EDGE data connectivity speeds which is really good enough when emailing, instant messaging or updating your social network sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace that comes with pop-up SNS notification. But you still get Bluetooth 2.1 for high speed wireless data transfers and synching between your handset and your desktop or laptop PC.
Its multimedia support starts with a 2.8-inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen that has QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels) and supports 16 million colors. It’s got the usual accelerometer for auto-rate, face-down muting and gesture locking. You get capable media players for your images, video and music files in the popular formats as well as an FM radio with RDS that allows broadcast recording. Whether using its players or its radio, you get DNSe sound effect and Bluetooth A2DP for using Bluetooth wireless stereo earphones.
Imaging gets a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera that supports smile and face recognition, including blink detection. Your images benefit from software-assisted Beauty effect enhancement common in many Samsung digital cameras. It works to beautify portrait shots automatically. There’s also the Lomo effect which is derived from the clear shots taken from old-style lomo cameras
Internal memory is a modest 40 MB that is quite common on entry level mobile phones. But you get a non-hot-swappable microSD card expansion support for up to 8GB. It comes with a 960 mAh lithium-ion battery that can deliver 10 hours of talk time and up to 13 days in standby.
Availability
With pricing still kept under wraps, the new Samsung S5150 Diva will hit the markets starting this January. It will launch in Russia, the Ukraine and the Netherlands and then hit other parts of Europe. As a budget entry level touchscreen, we expect the Diva to be in the €150 SIM-free price point and should be available free on a 12-month contract from any of the major network carriers.
Fujifilm Unveils Its Second-Generation 3D Camera
"Three-dimensional everything" is shaping up to be the big trend of 2010 (or at least its most-prominent bastion of hype), but Fujifilm had an early jump on the 3D craze. The company introduced the 3D-shooting FinePix Real 3D WX1 all the way back in the 2D-centric days of 2009, and it will stay a generation ahead of the competition with the just-announced FinePix Real 3D W3.
