How do I get my old film version Pentax Lenses to work on my *st DS Digital SLR?

Really I only want to be able to use my SMC Pentax-M 1.7 50mm

If it is a K mount lens, it will go on, but you have to shoot it with the camera in Manual. It will not do any of the auto focus, shutter speed and aperture stuff.

If it is a screw mount Takumar, you will need an adaptor from screw mount to K mount and then all of the above is still true.

What is your opinion, is a better camera ... Canon EOS Rebel XTi or Nikon D40x?

I currently have the D40x, but I have some problems and I can a new camera. My question is, should I stay with Nikon D60 or D40x and get another, perhaps? Or should I switch to Canon and get Perhaps a rebel EOS? And why you choose one over the other? Thank you! ~ Joe

In fact, I am using the Canon XS. I went from the Canon Rebel T2 35mm. I recommend that a Canon XS a DSLR.It (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera and sell for $ 549.00 to 599.00 $. Having dealt with IT skills you can slowly add different perspective, to receive the full use of the camera. Most weakness cost and compact cameras do not offer the possibility of including pictures of B & W. You do not have to convert these images stained with software supplied with the camera. But with the Canon, you can go to B & W photos. I have a 300mm lens on my Canon and get good shots turn genius of the moon. The picture quality is great and the crater is very detailed. Canon has given me no choice in photography by image quality of these cameras. should invest the only real filter are (1) UV (ultraviolet) filter (mainly to protect the lens. Does anyone use a Nikon or Canon with M42 adapter to make full use of M42 lens mount?

Canon EOS Rebel XTi - right choice at right price?

OK. So it appears I need a DSLR for my purposes and the Rebel XTi seems to be a recommended choice for a novice moving out of the point and shoot category. Package deal advertised for the Canon camera, 18-55 lense, 75-300 lense, Delkin 1 GB card, and tax free sale, all for $899.00. Mainly going for this camera to take pictures of kids in their sports (soccer, gymnastics, waterskiing, basketball, football) to get close up from the sidelines. So will these lenses in the kit get it done and does the price look right - from what I have researched it appears to be a good deal - so I guess the main issue is are these the lenses which will do the job of getting a close photo of my daughter on the uneven bars from the other side of the gym say 40 to 60 yards away? Or am I better off buying the body of the camera for as little as possible and going different lenses and memory card within the same $900.00. Thanks for your replies.

Just about any zoom will do outside in daylight. When you shoot in a gym it's a different story -- lighting is generally poor.

Your flash won't reach 40 to 60 yards so you'll have to crank up the ISO (luckily the XTi will go to 1600 fairly happily).

You may find the f5.6 aperture of the 75-300 at full zoom will not give you the necessary shutter speed to stop motion.

I'd try to get closer and use flash (if allowed) or find a faster lens.
