Canon EOS Rebel XTi - right choice at right price?

OK. So it appears I need a DSLR for my purposes and the Rebel XTi seems to be a recommended choice for a novice moving out of the point and shoot category. Package deal advertised for the Canon camera, 18-55 lense, 75-300 lense, Delkin 1 GB card, and tax free sale, all for $899.00. Mainly going for this camera to take pictures of kids in their sports (soccer, gymnastics, waterskiing, basketball, football) to get close up from the sidelines. So will these lenses in the kit get it done and does the price look right - from what I have researched it appears to be a good deal - so I guess the main issue is are these the lenses which will do the job of getting a close photo of my daughter on the uneven bars from the other side of the gym say 40 to 60 yards away? Or am I better off buying the body of the camera for as little as possible and going different lenses and memory card within the same $900.00. Thanks for your replies.

Just about any zoom will do outside in daylight. When you shoot in a gym it's a different story -- lighting is generally poor.

Your flash won't reach 40 to 60 yards so you'll have to crank up the ISO (luckily the XTi will go to 1600 fairly happily).

You may find the f5.6 aperture of the 75-300 at full zoom will not give you the necessary shutter speed to stop motion.

I'd try to get closer and use flash (if allowed) or find a faster lens.

Question on converter lenses and filters for Canon Powershot S3 IS?

I think buying a sun visor, the wide-angle converter and filters (polarizing and UV) for my Canon Powershot S3 IS. I wonder if I can use all three cap (Converter + Lens + filter) at the same time? Or should I learn to use one accessory at a time?

If you buy the product in the link below, it seems that you can use all three. It offers a tripod 58mm, so you Protect you from your filter and add optical converters, but also a cap on the accessory parts for transactions, and $ 30, I would say it is a good company.

There is nothing wrong with the kit lens to your needs. You will learn and develop your own techniques in the classroom, but many people tend to go one way or another when it comes to lenses. I prefer to stick with prime numbers and that my feet do not "zoom" for me, where others prefer zooms. I have a couple of each and depending on the situation. If I'm at a sporting event, for example, I can not close the action I use a zoom But if I get something in the Open, where I am free to move I use the primes. I havent a moment ago, just damn busy, but I found most people is very friendly, helpful and very competent. Good luck and have fun. Ow, even if you take a beginning level class, I do, that you start with the movie and then go digital and if so, the camera that you maintain order you much good, since it is a digital camera. However, if you need a digital camera, which is good for you. I have an origianl Rebel and 20D. If you find a new everywhere I recommend, get one. They have more features and are built a little lens better than the rebels. Forgot to say, a good start if you get a zoom would be a 24-70mm. Canon makes it not a third party. I like Sigma lenses, they also work good as the Canon are to gather in a cannon, and costs less. Camera 500D - first hand experience ... Very positive!

Here is a quick, first impressions (of the hand to turn the camera) 500D. Even if we need more scientific research is the image quality ultimate ease of use determined, I will try to give an indication of the potential of the camera.

I'm not going into details real goal of the kit, which also reviewed did. Let us only $ 100 for a good quality (image stabilized), the glass is at a very reasonable, you have no other option. There is no obvious reason for this lens kit should be on success or failure of your choice on this device a competitor.

Design and Styling wise, the camera is a 500D XSi is on, not bad for a cause. Some have found that the camera is a little on the small hands, or a lack of little weight, but most, like the size and weight (with me). It uses the same battery of evidence and accessories for XSI. I already have a general batteries used that works well in an XSi with results just as good, but I do not want to throw a pot to go well at all generics "category.

When you use the camera, the first thing you will notice the rebels in recent years in the beautiful LCD. Yep, the picture much cleaner, even in their original size. Not be confused if you compare the camera on this side by side and I think there are pictures all that much better. They are much better on this Sharp LCD.

First deals with IQ (Image Quality) were very impressive. I tried to use the camera in a variety of situtation (I like its shape), and have very good results at all. Concentration was typical for a rebel better, and the photos looked good throughout the range of ISO, based on reasonable expectations. I thought the auto white balance is a very good job compared to previous results, that I had with Canon in general. They were not perfect, but the watch seemed tungsten Areas better than average. Overall, I would say that Canon has made good progress with the jump to 15 meg, but probably no reason to trade in your XSI.

Live View has never been one of my biggest thrills, but SHARP LCD make it a little more fun. When I shoot macro I want more.

But The biggest advantage of the latest screen for some of them during filming videos. I only have videos in 1080p mode, and was supported by the Quality impressed. The sound was OK, and I was a bit disappointed that Canon) is not an input option Audio (ala the 5D MkII, or camcorder with the shoe intellegent. I'm also not sure how practical are the videos, especially since it is not a "direct HiDef Player as AVCHD or AVCHD-Lite.

Also, 20fps for 1080p a bit odd, but their software is not supported under grapping, should give the impression 4x6 beautiful (is) a little more 2MEG image. The 720p is included in a standard 30 frames per second, which also helps with moving objects. You can also take a 15meg image for full inclusion of videos. You videos are interrupted for about one second (you see a device for this length of video playback), but the high image quality are stored in a separate file (no need to enter frame). BTW, the autofocus has work during these recordings, but the noise picked up by the microphone.

Ok, so I liked the camera photo, but how I say, compared to competitors. Well, compared to the XSi is better, but perhaps not worth the money. The screen LCD is large (which alone get my money), and is a breeze, if you need to score a lot of video or macros. But prices are bad and combo deals in Canon, the XSi should be as strong as the base value.

I was also a bit of experience with the New Nikon D5000 (but less). Although initial rates are about $ 50 higher on the 500D camera, I thought the Canon was certainly interesting.
